Isabella Villafranca Soissons, from Turin, graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Turin and in painting restoration from the Art and Restoration Institute of Florence. After working for many years as a conservator in New York and London, she is now based in Milan, where she helped to build Open Care’s Conservation and Restoration Department and now serves as its director. Following her training and initial experience in antique art, she turned her attention to the material, technical and conservation related aspects of contemporary art while working in the United States and the United Kingdom. She also curates a number of private, bank, foundation and museum collections; teaches in various master’s programmes, schools and professional development programmes for universities and training organizations; and speaks at conferences and symposiums dedicated to conservation, both in Italy and abroad. She is vice president of the scientific committee for the Plastic in Art and for Art courses at
the Plart Foundation in Naples.
